Joseph Vincent Paterno Died today at the age of 85. He was the Penn State football head coach for 46 years. Joe holds the record for most victories by an NCAA Division I Football. Joe has 409 career wins with the Penn State Nittany Lions. Joe Pa as many refer to him as, coached five undefeated teams that won major bowl games. It is clear that Joe was such a great coach because in 2007, Joe was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame as a coach.
I think that Joe was a great coach and ultimately a great guy. He was very into his team and focused on what was best for his team. As many of his players said, he always did what was best for the team. Around the campus he was known for his distinct game day image, his thick square glasses. Joe and his wife also gave back to the school when he donated over four million dollars and funded their library. Joe Died of lung cancer on January 22, 2012. In my opinion, He died of a broken heart. The reason I think this is because he got fired as the head coach and now had nothing to live for. When I refer to Joe and say he had nothing to live for, I mean that a major part of him just died. Joe’s life was football. He loved to coach and I think that he would’ve coached until he died if he didn’t get fired. Many of the students happen to agree with me. They had posters and sign that said Joe Pa is Penn State. This just goes to show how great Joe really was. Joe will never be forgotten, Rest in Peace Joe.
